Adult Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is about making lasting change.  It involves looking at what is underneath the issue which may be causing the problem. This allows the therapist and client to identify patterns of psychological experiences and behaviours that may be unhelpful.  Once identified they can be explored and changed and replaced with more effective behaviours and responses.  This is done through the experience of working within a trusted therapeutic relationship.  Psychotherapy is proven to create real and long-term change, which continues to deliver well after therapy has finished.

Therapy for Children and Adolescents

We use play and talk therapy with children to support the child to address worries and concerns.  Children use play to communicate what they don't have the vocabulary for, in this way trained psychologists are able to observe, understand and support children to resolve worries and address behaviour.  Adolescents often prefer talking, however activities such as art therapy (drawing) is often utilised, and choice is given to support the young person's preference.

We work closely with the parents of any child we see.  This is paramount, as the objective of helping the child in therapy is often equally as important as empowering the adults that support them.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma occurs when an individual experiences an event or series of events which overwhelms the person's ability to cope.  The body and mind are unable to comprehend or make sense of the experience.  This may be due to shock, age, fear, or myriad of other reasons all of which can limit the person from being able to understand the trauma and how to move forward.  Trauma very often results in Post-Traumatic-Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Trauma therapy allows the individual to process the experience and move forward, so it no longer retriggers the individual. Trauma processing is a three-stage therapy which ensures safety for individuals to work though, distressing memories and past experiences which are keeping them tied to the past.  We also treat clients using EMDR. EMDR is a highly effective therapy for treating PTSD.
